SUPER RTL is a leading content provider for kids in Germany, offering content through its own linear TV channels and digital platforms. Super RTL was founded in 1995, and has operated as a joint-venture of RTL Group and Disney. Since 2021, RTL owns 100% of Super RTL.
SUPER RTL needed to launch a new video service aimed at children aged 0-13 years. However, it faced the challenge of developing a gamified and engaging platform with a wide variety of cross-content that can be presented in a playful UI/UX. SUPER RTL wanted their service to be available on Fire TV, Android TV sets, Web and as mobile apps for iOS and Android. The service will progressively be rolled out for audiences in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Another requirement was to have a central solution for experience management.
To help SUPER RTL launch TOGGO, 3SS was selected as the solution provider in 2019. Levearging 3SS’ 3Ready Framework, the initial phase of the TOGGO rollout was completed within just six months. The service was launched in stages, starting with the Fire TV app, followed by Android TV Smart TV app, web, and mobile apps for iOS and Android.
The 3SS project team worked very closely with SUPER RTL’s in-house team. Consistent with the methodologies of agile, continuous development with simultaneous testing and quality assurance operations, and a high level of communication, resulted in faster progress and accelerated TOGGO’s launch. SUPER RTL team members particularly expressed appreciation for the transparent and collaborative communications among all parties.
By taking advantage of 3SS' 3Ready Framework, SUPER RTL was able to launch TOGGO in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland in April 2020. TOGGO was progressively rolled out, starting with the Fire TV app, which followed highly successful viewer testing. 3 months after, the TOGGO app for Android TV sets went live in July 2020.
In May 2022, 3SS-engineered apps were launched for web, iOS, and Android mobile devices, allowing TOGGO to break new ground with its wide-ranging cross-content offering. TOGGO on mobile and Web offers videos, a wide array of games, audiobooks, and its own dedicated digital radio station. The new multiscreen service is brought to life thanks to 3SS' award-winning 3Ready product platform, which enables service providers to launch seamless experiences on all screens, co-create, and enable customer-centric innovation.
TOGGO is a gamified experience, full of animations with rich and diverse variety of content is engagingly presented in a new and highly playful UI/UX co-designed and engineered by 3SS, making TOGGO a kid-centric interactive entertainment portal like no other. Viewers can use a fun animated mouse cursor on the web app. Games previews are played when the viewer hovers over ‘game cards’. Also, 3SS developed a facility called ‘Interaction module‘ in which the broadcaster can ask questions live to viewers (e.g. What song should we play on the Radio now?) and viewers can submit their answers. The new multiscreen service is brought to life thanks to 3SS' award-winning 3Ready product platform, which enables service providers to launch seamless experiences on all screens, co-create and enable customer-centric innovation.
3Ready Control Center is providing SUPER RTL with a powerful customer experience management tool that gives real-time control over presentation of content, features and branding of all apps all from one location. So SUPER RTL can at any time efficiently A/B test, adapt and improve TOGGO based on viewer feedback.
In 2022, 3SS also created a demo that brings the best kids viewing experience directly into the rear-seats of cars. The in-car solution, including TOGGO, was shown at CES 2022, further highlighting the success of the partnership.
