ORS group, consisting of Austrian Broadcasting Services (ORS) and its subsidiary ORS comm, was facing a challenge of innovating while keeping their proven model of selling antenna products. To overcome this challenge, they came up with a hybrid solution combining antenna, satellite, and streaming. The company aimed to launch new simpliTV Smart TV experiences on Samsung Tizen, Android TV, and LG WebOS, with the objective of complementing its existing Fire TV and web apps and its apps for Android and iOS mobile devices. ORS was also looking for a partner to support the launch of new hybrid set-top-boxes.

ORS successfully launched simpliTV for Smart TVs in 2021. This complete solution allows users to enjoy live TV and record content to watch in the future, has personal recommendations, and allows users to access all the content in one app. The biggest achievement in this project is the hybrid approach on Smart TVs, which enables seamless switching between DVB-T2 live TV to time shift via streaming. ORS achieves the best-quality viewing experience (QoE) and maximum internet bandwidth efficiency for subscribers by using an innovative hybrid configuration, achieved through dynamic offloading of live TV onto reliable broadcast technology. In December 2021, ORS was honored with a VideoTech Innovation Award in recognition of its novel technological approach to its smart TV apps, which enable seamless switching between DVB live TV to timeshift via streaming.

To offer subscribers the latest features in 4K DVB and OTT viewing, two new 4K Hybrid STBs from Skyworth went live in 2022, named simpliONE Box. These products are based on Android TV Operator Tier and feature an advanced customized UX, created and delivered by 3SS. Consumers can enjoy a rich home entertainment experience with UHD picture clarity, Dolby surround sound, and a variety of additional features. Hybrid simpliTV brings together the best of DVB broadcasting, OTT streaming, and Google Play Store Apps, combining the stability and quality of digital satellite and terrestrial TV with all of today’s online video features.

The UI/UX is easy-to-use and intuitive. A grid-view EPG is complemented by a modern way of presenting content which encourages viewers to explore, with categories such as Recommended, Most Watched, Genres, etc. Content and functions are browsable in a highly visual way, with easy, seamless switching from live DVB and OTT. Content can be easily discovered thanks to multiple entry points. Navigation takes place both vertically and horizontally, enabling subscribers to find their desired content faster. The user can access every part of the app in just one or two steps.  

ORS has successfully provided a next-generation TV viewing experience that meets the ever-higher expectations of today’s consumers while continuing to entertain viewers who prefer a more traditional TV experience. The company's hybrid simpliTV solution provides an advanced UX based on the award-winning 3Ready Product Framework, delivering over 100 channels. ORS has achieved its objective of providing a next-generation TV viewing experience, as evidenced by the VideoTech Innovation Award received in December 2021.
